SEVENTH FRAMEWORK PROGRAMME
About EURIPIDES - Impact - Consequences for patients

Consequences for patients

EU citizens will benefit from EURIPIDES with its emphasis on translational research and the development of a new treatment strategy for drug-resistance.

Rapid and reliable diagnosis of upregulation of multidrug transporters will tremendously shorten the time that patients have to live in uncertainty and be exposed to futile therapies. Rather, they can be directed at the earliest possible stage to proper therapeutic alternatives.

Patients will directly benefit from a non-invasive molecular imaging tool for the early identification of neurodegenerative disease mechanisms or drug-resistance with prediction of treatment response.

Furthermore, availability of imaging biomarkers will support the development of new treatment strategies targeted at the multidrug transporter and aimed at reversing pharmacoresistance with selection of optimal patients and assessment of molecular targets. There is the potential of innovative therapeutic approaches. This will lead to improved health care through personalised (or individualised) treatment strategies, and at the same time to a reduction of health care costs by discontinuing ineffective therapies.
